The London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham

 

Hammersmith and Fulham is one of the 33 boroughs that make up Greater London, it is located just south of the Thames and is a pretty central location. If you're young free and single this could be the place for you. Hammersmith and Fulham has the second highest population of single adults in all the boroughs of not just London, but the whole of England and Wales. That's a lot of single people ready to mingle. A quarter of the population in Hammersmith and Fulham are aged between 20 -29 years old, which is pretty high.

Hammersmith and Fulham has some very affluent areas and about 50% of households are privately owned. The most affluent areas include: Fulham, Parson's Green, Brackenbury Village, Riverside and Ravenscourt Park.

  • Addison - A mainly residential area located in close proximity to Kensington, Ravenscourt Park and Westfield Shopping Centre
  • Askew - A mainly residential area located between Shepherd's Bush, Acton and Chiswick
  • Avonmore and Brook Green - A popular area with young professionals it offers a range of theatres, nightclubs and pubs
  • College Park and Old Oak - A mainly residential area in the north of the borough that is dominated by large bay fronted Victorian terraces. It is very close to Willesden Junction and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
  • Fulham Broadway  - Fulham is a very affluent area of London as it is very close to Chelsea
  • Fultham Reach - Fulham is a very affluent area of London as it is very close to Chelsea
  • Hammersmith Broadway - A great place for shopping and has it's own shopping centre which contain all the major high street shops and brands as well as many places to eat  and drink.
  • Munster A mostly residential area with the SW6 postcode where the average property price is £1m
  • North End
  • Palace Riverside - As the name suggests this is a mainly residential area located next to the river Thames and includes Fulham palace, Putney Bridge and Hurlingham House
  • Parson's Green and Walham - This is a mainly afluent residential area and is in close proximity to New King's Road
  • Ravenscourt Park - This is  home to Ravenscourt Park, a 20.5 acre public park which is a designated conservation area. It is also many sports facilities as well as a paddling pool for children
  • Sands End - This area was once the industrial heart of Fulham but has since been gentrified where flats in this area have sold for over £2.4 million.
  • Shepherd's Bush Green - A very popular area for shopping it boasts it own market as well as being home to  Westfield, the largest indoor shopping centre in Europe. It is an affluent area of London which borders with Holland Park and Hammersmith.
  • Town
  • Wormholt and White City - This is the northern area of Shepherds Bush and is home to BBC Television Centre

 

Quirky facts about Hammersmith and Fulham

  • Hammersmith is to the legendary Hammersmith Apollo where David Bowie's penultimate live concert as Ziggy Stardust took place in 1973
  • Every year Hammersmith and Fulham hosts the annual Oxford vs Cambridge boar race
  • It's London's fourth smallest borough
  • Ghandi used to live in Hammersmith whilst studying Law in the 1880's
