The London borough of Lewisham

 

Lewisham is one of the 33 boroughs that make up Greater London, it is in inner city south-east London. It is located next to the boroughs of Greenwich, Bromley and Southwark.

Due to Lewisham's wide range of diversity it has some great food stores in Lewisham high street selling Asian and African foods, plus there's a great fresh fruit and veg market that also offers fresh fish. It's well worth checking out and  as everything  is very cheap, don't leave it too late in the day to go there.

The 18 different electoral wards of Lewisham are:

  • Bellingham - Randlesdown Road serves as a high street for Bellingham and offers a local supermarket, pubs, take-aways and a gym.
  • Blackheath - A affluent area in London Fare Zone 3, it is very close to Greenwich Park and has a great variety of shops, restaurants pubs as well as it's own annual festival - On Blackheath Festival
  • Brockley - Once a small agricultural hamlet Brockley is now an area steeped with history. It contains many attractive green spaces such as Blythe Hill. Brockley has a great reputation for art and in the 1960's it had a strong bohemian influence of artists and musicians and is very close to Goldsmiths College and Camberwell School of Art.
  • Catford - A London Fare Zone 3 area. This is an up and coming area which is going through regeneration. It also boasts many parks such as Ladywell Fields, Mountsfield Park and Riverpool Linear Park
  • Crofton Park - In London Fare Zone 3, Crofton Park offers a rich array of pubs, clubs and restaurants as well as the Brockley Jack Theatre
  • Downham - Is also very close to Bromley which is a great area for shopping. It is an area enjoying re-development.
  • Evelyn - Is located on the tip of Lewisham and is very close to Depford.
  • Forest Hill - As the name suggest Forest Hill was once woodland and is still home to two nature reserves. Horniman Museum the largest collection of taxidermy in the northern hemisphere is located in Forest Hill
  • Grove Park - Is a London Fare Zone 4 area and has great transport links for those who work in Central London. It borders with Bromley which offers a rich assortment of shops and night life.
  • Ladywell -  Located near Brockley and Crofton park Ladywell Village boasts of many independent shops and has it's own park; Ladywell Fields
  • Lee Green - Lee Green is both in the boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham and is a mainly resedential area
  • Lewisham - Is a London Fare Zone 2 area and offers great shops ans well as a huge fresh produce market located along the high street.
  • New Cross - An up and coming area that has great transport links
  • Perry Vale - An area in Lewisham situated in close proximity to Forest Hill
  • Rushey Green - A resedential area very close to Catford
  • Sydenham - Sydenham is an area divided in to three areas; Sydenham Hill, Upper Sydenham Hill and Lower Sydenham Hill and Bell Green. It boasts a very impressive high street, several conservation areas and an annual Sydenham Arts Festival
  • Telegraph Hill - A residential area which holds its own annual Telegraph Hill festival as well as having many parks and sports and recreational facilities.
  • Whitefoot - A mainly residential area that is close to Downham, Grove Park and Bellingham.
