Ever wondered how you can reduce the value of your home? Read our guide to find out you can take thousands of the value of your home

So earlier in a previous article we've addressed how to increase the value of your home, but for those of you out there who are feeling self destructive, here's how to lose value on your home!

Never update your home!

Neglect is paramount to reducing the value of your home. Never ever update or maintain your home, particularly if you want it to lose value. If your kitchen falls into ruin, leave it. No matter how tempting it is to replace old cupboards, broken windows or even a collapsed stair case, never do this. Make sure you keep all your broken fixtures for that genuine lived in and neglected impression.

Poor property maintenance will easily allow your home to fall into a bad condition. Damp is a great indicator of this and can cause a lot of damage to the walls in your home which will have a big impact on your home's value.

Create a bad floor plan

Each square foot of your home holds value but you can easily reduce this worth by restricting the space and function of your home. Everyone loves having a sense of relaxing space in their home so why not design a floor plan to restrict space and light in your home? To lose value in your home you'll need to ensure it contains numerous tiny rooms which are dark and have no functional purpose. A long dark, narrow hallways will really compliment a terrible layout.

Get pets!

Be sure to add some pets to your family to take away your homes worth. How about a pack of smelly dogs to add an interesting and unusual aroma to your home. One dog may not be enough, so the more the better! Or if your not a dog lover, how about a cat? These feline friends can really stamp their mark on your home by scratching walls, furniture and especially the banisters on your stairs!

If you don't want to pay out for a pet why not encourage wildlife into your home such as mice? These little visitors can do wonders to your home's smell and electrical safety and their only expense is leaving crumbs of cheese and other food over the floor!

Unusual home improvements!

Ever thought of getting a hot tub? Potential buyers will hate the prospect of inheriting a second hand hot tub in their new home - god knows what's gone on in it! Hot tubs are also really difficult to remove so can instantly reduce the value of your home.

Get rid of off street parking

People love to have their own driveway particularly if they live in area where parking is an issue. Getting rid of your driveway is a great way of not only reducing the value of your home but also to repel potential buyers.

Lose those bedrooms!

Make sure you turn all your bedrooms into useless rooms. Bedrooms are so over rated and mainstream!

If you absolutely have to retain your bedroom make sure they have a terrible theme. Choose a bright pink or a difficult to hide jet black. Or maybe even spend thousands on a child's themed bedroom that no child would love, don't let not having children stop you.

Create a high maintenance garden

Most people love having their own garden, somewhere where they can go to relax after a long week of work. So be sure to create a garden that's extremely high maintenance and costly to maintain. Maybe introduce brambles to the centre of the garden and then leave it to run wild - everyone loves blackberry pie.
